L’arbre en ville
La Ville de Ferney-Voltaire dispose d’un riche patrimoine arboré, composé de plus de 50 espèces d’arbres et d’arbustes, dispersés sur l’ensemble du territoire communal.
Liste non exhaustive des espèces d’arbres et d’arbustes présentes sur la commune : Cèdre, érable, érable champêtre, celtis, tilleul, frêne, chêne, chêne rouge, chêne fastigié, chêne chevelu, chêne du Mexique, hêtre, robinier, érable sycomore, érable lacinié, érable champêtre, peuplier d’Italie, catalpa, prunus, platane, liquidambar, bouleau, frêne, orme, charme, sureau, aubépine, aulne, acacia, épicéa, douglas, sapin, pin, tuya, tulipier, Junipérus, châtaignier, noyer, merisier, cerisier, pommier, poirier, prunier, prunelier, mûrier, figuier. L’arbre en ville se développe et évolue différemment des arbres poussant en milieu naturel. Un entretien régulier est donc nécessaire.
Une gestion continue du patrimoine arboré
Un expert forestier missionné par la commune effectue des contrôles réguliers du patrimoine boisé, en lien très étroit avec le service Espace Vert. La commune dispose également d’un inventaire des espèces et des arbres présents sur le territoire. Bien connaître le territoire et les espèces qui y sont plantées facilite le suivi du patrimoine boisé communal.
Des campagnes d’entretien (tailles d’entretien, tailles de formation, purges de parties sèches, abattages) sont réalisées annuellement.
Durant ces campagnes, les abattages d’arbres ne sont réalisés que pour des raisons de sécurité, lorsque des arbres ou arbustes sont morts, en dépérissement ou malades. L’abattage évite alors un risque de chute de branches ou de l’arbre lui-même. Les étés 2022 et 2023 ont été excessivement chauds et secs, et ont en outre induit l’accélération du dépérissement de nombreux sujets.
Les campagnes d’entretien en cours
En février et mars 2024 :
- Abattage de quatre petits érables au parc du Bijou, en dépérissement (malades ou secs) ; d’un orme situé rue de Meryin, au bas du parc de la Tire, atteint de graphiose ; d’un chêne mort à l’école Jean-de-La-Fontaine, à proximité de l’abribus.
- Élagage des branches abîmées des deux cèdres situés devant la mairie et à proximité des arrêts de bus.
Les plantations réalisées depuis 2020
Ces plantations ont été réalisées par la Ville de Ferney-Voltaire et par le département de l’Ain dans le cadre des travaux du Bus à haut niveau de services :

- Le long du tracé du Bus à haut niveau de service : 124 arbres ;
- Abords de la piste cyclable, route de Meyrin : 40 arbres + 85 arbustes ;
- Abords de la voie douce, chemin de Collex : 1 arbre + 170 arbustes ;
- Sur plusieurs sites sur tout le territoire communal : 57 nouveaux arbres + 2 187 nouveaux arbustes et 21 arbres en remplacement de sujets dépérissants + 304 arbustes ;
- Micro-forêt : 880 très jeunes arbres, dont une grande partie va s’éteindre au profit des sujets qui vont durablement grandir.

Zoom sur la micro-forêt
Une micro-forêt a été planté en novembre 2022 dans le quartier de l’école Florian. Inspirées par le travail du botaniste japonais Akira Miyawaki,
les micro-forêts sont des forêts urbaines miniatures, où la plantation est très dense. L’objectif est de planter jusqu’à une trentaine d’espèces indigènes, génétiquement adaptées à notre territoire.
Ces zones permettent la création de véritables écosystèmes, qui se développent rapidement. Les micro-forêts ont de nombreux bienfaits : assainissement de l’air et de l’eau stockée dans le sol, réduction des îlots de chaleur, meilleure infiltration des eaux de pluie, développement et préservation de la biodiversité. Ce projet a été mené en collaboration avec Forêt B.
